We had to design for plants from a speculative and critical perspective, where we put our relationship to plants in a new light. We were looking at how plants can beneft from living with humans, which we approached from a fertilisation perspective.
Human excrement is rarely seen as a wasted energy source while we are saying goodbye to a signifcant amount of potential nutrients without realising it. And with certain diets, their mineral and trace element content can be further enhanced in terms of fertilisation, which is good for plants. Hungarian prisons already produce their own food in a well-functioning self-suffcient system, where they support each other with different types of food produced. There is already a strong emphasis here on ensuring that people who are released from prison are returned as important members of society and feel useful.
In action
Prisoners can use their eyes to control and manage the IT infrastructure in the prison.
All other control and monitoring options are based on head movement, eye and mouth control.
Different types of land under cultivation require different amounts and qualities of fertiliser. The composition of these fertilisers depends on what we have consumed, so keeping track of them is very important. Thanks to the IT system, we can keep track of and select the amount of manure that is still needed for the areas under cultivation. Our concept aims to raise uncomfortable and provocative questions about the vulnerability of the individual and the true meaning of sustainable systems, where we can call an ethically questionable system sustainable.
